Steel bar cutting optimization

Nest the lengths a job needs onto mill stock, respect kerf and trim, and keep reusable remnants apart from scrap. FeneCAM runs in the browser or from your AI agent via API and MCP, and exports a numbered cut plan as PDF, XLS, CSV or DXF.

What it solves

Steel arrives in mill lengths, for example 6 m and 12 m bars (20 ft and 40 ft in imperial shops), and leaves the saw as the lengths on a job’s cut list. FeneCAM’s 1-CSP (one-dimensional cutting stock) solver nests those lengths onto your stock so fewer bars go to the saw and less steel ends up in the scrap bin. It fits structural and fabrication shops cutting angle, channel, flat bar, beam sections and rebar-style linear stock.

• Several stock lengths in one plan, so the solver can mix shorter and longer bars.
• Kerf (blade width) between cuts, plus left and right trim cuts.
• Minimal remnant length (MR): leftover at or above MR goes back to the rack, shorter leftover is scrap. See remnant vs scrap.
• Left and right cut angles per part when a member needs a miter. Empty angles mean 90°.

How to run it

In the browser: open the free linear cut list calculator, enter stock and part lengths, set kerf, and calculate. No account and no install on the saw PC. Move to a workspace when you need saved plans, projects and machine output.

From an agent: call optimize_1csp through the Agent API or MCP. Import a BOM with import_parts, run the optimizer, read bars used, yield, waste and remnants with get_result, then export_plan as PDF, XLS, CSV or DXF. API access is included in the Free, Standard and Professional plans, with quotas.

Machine modes are Single Head, Double Head and CNC. Fenestration-specific miter workflows remain available as a feature; steel shops use the same optimizer without them.
