If leftover equals MR, is it a remnant?
Yes. Leftover ≥ MR is a remnant. Leftover below MR is scrap.
Guide · remnants
Minimum remnant length (MR) is a shop rule, not a solver mystery. On a mill-length aluminium or uPVC window bar, leftover at or above MR goes back to the warehouse. Shorter leftover is scrap. The 1068 mm remnant on the FeneCAM homepage is an illustrative public demo, not a recommended threshold.
MR (minimal remnant length) is the shortest leftover you will store and use later. The 1-CSP window-profile guide uses MR 1000 mm on 6000 mm stock. That is a worked example, not a factory default. Your rack, handling cost and next-job mix set MR. Kerf still comes off between cuts; MR does not replace kerf, left trim or right trim.
Run the same lengths in the 1D profile optimizer and change only MR. Bar count can stay the same while leftover labels flip from remnant to scrap.
| Remnant | Scrap | |
|---|---|---|
| Rule | Leftover ≥ MR | Leftover < MR |
| Where it goes | Back to the warehouse / remnants rack | Bin; not stored as stock |
| Next job | Available as a shorter bar of the same material | Not offered as stock |
| Worked example (MR 1000) | 1071 mm leftover on P2 | 51 mm leftover on P1 |
Those leftovers are from the six-casement plan in the 1-CSP guide: 12 × 1485 mm and 12 × 1230 mm on 6000 mm bars, kerf 3 mm, MR 1000 mm. P1 leftover 51 mm is scrap. P2 leftover 1071 mm is a remnant. That is not the homepage demo.
The public homepage panel shows 12 bars, 94.1% yield, 5.9% waste and a 1068 mm remnant. That panel is a different BOM. It is not a study, not a yield claim, and not a recommended MR. Do not copy 1068 mm into the MR field because it appeared on the marketing screen.
Same 1-CSP method, separate stock lists. An aluminium leftover must not sit on a uPVC list, and the reverse. Reinforcement steel, glass and infill sheets are not bar remnants: glass belongs in 2-CSP. If you keep remnants, label them with the same material name you used on the job (example: Aluminum Profile 6060).
Machine mode (Single Head, Double Head or CNC) does not change whether leftover is remnant or scrap. That label comes from MR. See the double-head vs single-head guide and the CAM-to-saw handoff for how the same nest is grouped for the saw.
Yes. Leftover ≥ MR is a remnant. Leftover below MR is scrap.
No. 1068 mm is leftover on an illustrative public demo. Set MR from how your warehouse handles short bars.
No. Do not mix aluminium and uPVC remnants. Same length is not the same profile.
No. Two heads change how the member is cut. Remnant versus scrap is still leftover compared with MR.
